This right here is the thing that keeps me coming back to Eve - the mini events that seem to happen in the community.

From the Forums:

Attention PVPer’s: You have the chance to make a guy settle down, force him to submit to one woman for the rest of his life. If you want to essentialy do the same as pod a ‘carebear’ in his best ‘titan’ ship - only in real life - please read on.

My bf joked today that if I filled a choron with corpses, he would marry me. He’s kind of fond of testing peoples commitment, but he always follows through with his bets if they prove themselves.

I have known him for a while, and he would not say this unless he meant it. Thing is, looking at the charons cargo hold I dont think I can do it all myself.. but then again he never said I had to do it alone.

So here is the deal: I need your corpses. Contract, trade, I need them. I’m still kinda new and I dont have a lot of isk (I’m told that some people have millions of isk) but I want to try becouse I think he’s worth it.

I know this is a strange thing to ask, but from what I have seen in this game so far Eve is filled with people who could help.

Please?

At last check she had 218!

Footage was shown of a Halo-like shooter on a daylit, Earth-like planet surface. The architecture and gun designs were clearly redolent of the space MMO’s art style.

There was also a third-person view of a land vehicle driving across the surface.

Earlier in the presentation on the future of EVE, CCP bosses Hilmar Petursson and Nathan Richardsson had mentioned that CCP has a “game console strategy”, and a slide mentioning PS3 and 360 was shown.

It seems likely that the FPS is envisaged as a game console project. Petursson mentioned that the developer has “some other tricks up our sleeve” besides EVE Online and the other MMO it is known to be developing, World of Darkness.

However, Petursson was keen to point out that the developer’s resources are very much focused on EVE Online’s next expansion at the moment - so don’t expect the FPS any time soon.

It’s oh so quiet.. Yay life taking hold and stripping me of any real time I have for other things - actually that’s a lie. I’ve been partying my arse of for my girlfriends Birthday/Halloween and have been to lazy to update here.

To give a brief update - I;ve been playing around with Ubuntu a lot lately and have decided to start a summer project of building myself a web server. I already have a basic one running on my laptop as a proof of concept, but I can’t fesibly use it as the wireless connection is flakey at best. I already have a computer that is waiting for a tidy up before it’s transformation into a new server - and once I get it all nicely done it shall become an integral part in our home network. I figure I’ll even post about the process while I go through with it.

Works been great - and I’m playing with some really cool features with one of the NextGen consoles.
Unfortunately I can’t really say anything, but it’s definately a feature that as far as I know isn’t used in many games - if any.

With its corporate raids and virtual intrigues, EVE Online is perhaps the most cutthroat of MMOs.

But its devotees, it seems, are pussycats in real life.

A press release issued this morning by the Get-Well Gamers Foundation reports that the official fan club of EVE publisher CCP, The Camarilla, raised $4,000 for the charity by holding silent auctions and raffles of donated items during gatherings.

CCP exec Val Massey commented on the donation:

The generosity of The Camarilla continues to amaze us. It’s entirely to their credit that this donation was made possible. Get-Well Gamers is such a worthy cause and we are in awe of their tireless efforts to bring some much-needed fun to young people who need it most. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to act as a conduit to connect these two incredible groups.

GWG president (and longtime GP community member) Ryan Sharpe praised the EVE Online community:

Given the recent economic climate, especially in Iceland where CCP calls home, this is a particularly poignant donation. We cannot begin to thank CCP, White Wolf and The Caramilla for their generous support of Get-Well Gamers and other worthy causes. They truly show how online communities can be used as a force for good.

The Get-Well Gamers Foundation accepts donated console games and equipment as well as hand-held systems and the games which it then re-distributes to children’s hospitals. Donations are tax-deductible.

Just read about this over at the EVE Tribune. Ahh corp-theft, what makes EVE stand out

———

By Miyamoto Isoruku

Beginning a thoroughly trolled thread on COAD, Viper Shizzle of Pandemic Legion announced that thelung187 had stolen 200 billion worth of ISK and property from Destructive Influence, a member of Band of Brothers, dwarfing the infamous GHSC heist. In these days of ever-escalating heists, however, this one rates only above average—by comparison, the EVE bank scam netted 671 billion ISK.

The corp-theft was confirmed by members of BoB, including LadyScarlet of DICE. Thelung, a member of DICE for four years, estimated his total haul to be somewhat less than 200 billion, but clearly did substantial damage. Thelung claimed to have seized:

“15b liquid isk, ~170k dysprosium, 500k+ of promethium, a *seriously* unfathomable amount of POS modules (including faction deathstar setups, a capital assembly ship array or some such thing), an estimated 30m+ of isotopes , 15m+ Liquid Ozone, 2 revelations, a crapload of DB/Corpum loot, lots of minor BPOs (all the capital component bpos were wisely locked), and to be quite honest, there’s probably a fair bit more I just haven’t had the time to look yet.”
http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=899312&page=2)

However, perhaps feeling some residual twinge of conscience, he chose to leave 150 billion ISK in the corp wallet, and their moon mining operations were left untouched. So although DICE is definitely hurting, they still have significant assets in reserve. The impact on their combat readiness is yet to be seen, but I suspect that this will have minimal impact, if any, on BoB’s war effort in the North.

As mentioned and as one would expect on CAOD, the thread was thoroughly trolled. Many decried thelung’s treachery, while Bobbits claimed that they didn’t want those mods anyway, and PL and Goons were, well, PL and Goons. However, in my personal opinion the best quote belongs to one Chani Kahn, who fittingly enough had no corp tag displayed:

“I am waiting for the CCP DEV blog explaining why they will be sending bob a 700 billion isk bailout package.”

—Miya
